Born and raised by a single mother in Philadelphia’s urban neighborhoods, alongside three siblings, Latoya’s early life was marked by challenges. Yet, she transcended these obstacles, earning a full academic scholarship to Clark Atlanta University, where she excelled, obtaining both Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees in Mathematics with honors. This achievement was followed by further academic success in Raleigh, NC, where she gained two additional master’s degrees in Statistics and Secondary Math Education. Throughout her college years, Latoya distinguished herself as a scholar, publishing research and presenting at numerous conferences, laying the groundwork for a career committed to education and empowerment.

As a Knowles Teaching Fellow and Nationally Board Certified educator, Latoya brings over a decade of experience shaping young minds in high school and college math classrooms across Raleigh and Durham, NC. Beyond her role as an educator, Latoya serves as a mentor, women’s basketball coach, community leader, and, most importantly, a loving mother to five children, making a significant impact inside and outside of the classroom. Her passion for education is matched by her commitment to financial education, aiming to empower communities, especially the underserved, with knowledge and skills for a better future. Latoya embodies the qualities of leadership, resilience, and a lifelong dedication to learning and teaching.
