When you hear the word hero, what comes to mind?
Maybe it’s Superman flying through the sky or Wonder Woman saving the day.
As a mom of 4 kids under the age of 9 I have my fair share of superhero picks – my kids are obsessed!
But for us ‘grown-ups’ maybe it’s someone with extraordinary talent, natural-born confidence, or a knack for being in the right place at the right time.
But let’s be honest—those heroes live in comic books and movies. Real-life heroes? They’re a little different.
Let me tell you a secret: being a hero doesn’t take superpowers, and it’s not about being perfect. It’s about taking action—immediate, massive action.
I know, that probably doesn’t sound as exciting as leaping tall buildings. But stick with me because by the end of this, you’re going to see that you already have what it takes to be a hero in your own life and in business.
Here’s the thing most people get wrong: they think heroes are fearless. Like they don’t have doubts or worries. But that’s not true at all. Heroes are just like the rest of us—they get scared, they fail, and they definitely don’t have all the answers.
The difference?
Heroes take action anyway.
Most people sit on the sidelines waiting.
They wait for the perfect moment.
They wait until they are ready.
They wait until it “feels” right.
But let me ask you something: how often does “ready” ever really come?
Spoiler alert: it doesn’t.
That’s why heroes don’t wait. They take action before they feel ready, and that’s exactly what sets them apart.
The Real Superpower: Immediate. Massive. Action.
Let’s break this down.
What is immediate, massive action, and why is it so important?
First, immediate means no delay.
No overthinking.
No second-guessing.
No asking opinions.
No praying about it. (if you believe in God, You pray regardless and He is the one that put that thought in your head to begin with!)
Take action. Regardless of how you feel –you do it right away.
That’s the first step to breaking the cycle of fear and self-doubt.
Next, massive doesn’t mean complicated or grandiose.
It simply means bold. It’s about doing something that moves the needle forward in a meaningful way.
Maybe that’s making a tough phone call.
Or waking up 10 minutes earlier.
Or starting that savings plan.
Or changing your route to work so you don’t pass that tantalizing bakery that always sucks you in!
The size of the action doesn’t matter—it’s the intent behind it.
Finally, there’s action. Because let’s face it, nothing changes if you don’t move.
You can plan, dream, and strategize all day, but at some point, you’ve got to do the thing.
Even if it’s messy.
Even if you’re scared.
Even if you don’t know what’s going to happen.
So Why Don’t Most People Don’t Take Action
You know what stops most people from becoming heroes? Overthinking.
You sit there, replaying every possible outcome in your head:
What if I fail?
What if people judge me?
What if I’m not good enough?
It’s like a mental hamster wheel—you go around and around but never actually move forward.
Here’s the truth: doubt, fear, and worry only exist in your thoughts!
When you take action, those feelings don’t stand a chance.
You either succeed, or you learn.
Either way, you’re better off than staying stuck in your head.
And let’s talk about failure for a second because I know that’s a big one. Nobody likes to fail—it’s uncomfortable, sometimes embarrassing.
But you know what’s worse? Regret.
The “what if” that creeps in when you didn’t even try.
Taking action, even if it doesn’t work out, gives you experience, and that’s something you can build on.
How Heroes Build Momentum
Have you ever noticed that starting is the hardest part?
It’s like pushing a heavy boulder uphill—it feels impossible at first.
But once you get it moving, it gains momentum, and suddenly, things get easier.
That’s exactly how action works. The first step might feel clumsy or awkward, but once you take it, the next step feels a little smoother.
Before you know it, you’re rolling, and your confidence starts to grow.
People start noticing. You’re making an impact. That’s how real heroes are made.
Becoming Your Own Hero
Now, you might be wondering, Okay, this sounds great, but how do I actually start?
Good question.
Let’s break it down into three simple areas: people, places, and things.
-
- Surround Yourself with the Right People
You’ve probably heard the saying,
“You are the average of the five people you spend the most time with.”
And it’s true.
The people around you have a huge influence on your mindset and actions.
But here’s the twist: it’s not enough to be around positive people.
You need people who challenge you—people who push you to grow.
The best kind of friend or mentor isn’t the one who always tells you what you want to hear.
It’s the one who sees your potential and refuses to let you stay comfortable.
So ask yourself: who in your life is encouraging you to step up?
And if you don’t have those people yet, find them.
Books, podcasts, and online communities are a great place to start.
(BTW –The World Changers Network is one of those –check it out!)
-
- Create Environments That Inspire Action
Let’s talk about your surroundings.
Is your environment helping or hurting your ability to take action?
For example, let’s say you want to wake up earlier.
If your alarm clock is right next to your bed, it’s easy to hit snooze and roll over.
But if you put the alarm across the room, you have to physically get up to turn it off.
That one small change sets the tone for the rest of your day.
Or maybe you want to spend less time scrolling on your phone.
You can set up “focus mode” to block distracting apps during certain hours.
Little tweaks like these make a big difference.
The goal is to make it easier for you to act than to procrastinate.
When your environment supports your goals, taking action becomes second nature.
-
- Use Tools That Encourage Action
Finally, let’s talk about things.
The tools you surround yourself with matter.
If you want to read more, make sure books are easily accessible.
If you want to make more sales calls, have your contact list ready to go.
Remove as many obstacles as possible so there’s nothing standing between you and action.
Once you start taking action, don’t stop.
Celebrate your wins, but don’t get too comfortable.
Growth happens when you push past what’s easy and into what’s challenging.
That might mean tackling something you’ve been avoiding or doubling down on your efforts.
It might mean making mistakes along the way.
That’s okay.
Every step forward brings you closer to your goals.
Every Step Matters
At the end of the day, being a hero isn’t about being perfect.
It’s not about saving the world in one dramatic moment.
It’s about showing up, taking action, and creating change—first in your own life, and then in the lives of others.
So, what’s your next step?
Do one action.
If you’re focused on getting your finances in order, set a time to speak with a financial professional or take a course.
Whatever it is, don’t wait.
Don’t overthink it.
Take action right now.
Because the world doesn’t need another movie superhero. It needs you.
Go be the hero you were made to be. You’ve got this.
